Why Flexi exists

Built around how people actually work

I've been running this space since 2011. Fifteen years of watching how people use an office when you don't force them into a rigid structure.

What I've learned is that almost nobody works the way a traditional office assumes they do. Some people are here at 7am before the city wakes up. Some come in after a first shift somewhere else, building something of their own from 6pm onwards , that's what 24/7 access is actually for. Some do two focused hours in the morning, handle life in the middle of the day, and come back for another four in the afternoon.

The Flexi model exists because of these people, not in spite of them. The clock only runs when you're connected. You're not paying for hours you're not here.

The more time you spend at CTO, the lower your hourly rate. That's intentional. This is a community, not a drop-in centre , and the pricing reflects that.

The split-day worker
Two hours before school drop-off. Four hours after pickup. Six hours used, six hours paid for. A day pass would charge the same rate regardless.
The side hustler
Finishes shift one elsewhere. Arrives at CTO at 6pm to build shift two. 24/7 access means the space is there when the inspiration is.
The hybrid professional
Two or three office days a week, the rest remote or client-facing. Needs a real desk, not a café table , but not five days a week of one.
The work traveller
Based in Cape Town, occasionally away for weeks at a time. Hours don't disappear the moment a work trip comes up , 60 days is a generous window by design.
A note on the 60-day window. It exists because real working life is unpredictable. We built it around what we've actually seen over 15 years , not around what's easiest to manage on our end.

Common questions

How does the hour-tracking actually work? +
When you arrive, you connect to the CTO Flexi WiFi network using your personal username and password. The clock starts. When you disconnect , or log out , it stops. Your balance updates in real time. There is no check-in at reception and no daily minimum. Two hours on Monday, six hours Thursday , whatever suits you.
What happens if I don't use all my hours within 60 days? +
Unused hours expire at the end of the 60-day validity period. The window is designed to be generous for most working patterns , a Flexi-40 used at roughly one day a week would typically be used up in five weeks. If something unexpected happens, get in touch.
Is there a minimum number of hours per visit? +
No. Your balance decreases only by the time you actually spend connected to the network. Come in for one hour or eight hours , the clock reflects reality, not a minimum.
Can I bring guests or clients to meetings? +
Yes. Meeting rooms are included on a fair-use basis for hosting clients and guests. Phone booths are available for private calls. Meeting slots can be booked online in 30-minute increments.
Can I upgrade to a dedicated desk? +
Yes. Many members start on a Flexi package to get a feel for the space, then move to a dedicated desk once they know it works for them. Contact us at any point during your membership to discuss upgrading.
Can a team share one Flexi membership? +
Flexi memberships are issued per person. Access is tied to an individual WiFi login. Teams who want to work from CTO together should each take their own membership. Get in touch to discuss group options.
What does 24/7 access actually mean? +
You can enter the building and use the workspace at any hour using your personal access disc. The space is unstaffed outside reception hours (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) but fully operational. Early mornings, late nights, weekends , all fine.
Do prices include VAT? +
Yes. All Flexi membership prices are inclusive of 15% South African VAT. Flexi-40: R2,530 / Flexi-50: R2,875 / Flexi-75: R3,795.
